ENS de Lyon Ampère Scholarships 2025/2026 for International Students

ENS de Lyon and its partners offer scholarships (Ampère, GRADUATE +) for excellent international students to enroll in Master’s programs.

For thorough guidance on the choice of Master’s degree, please read carefully the Master’s program description. The International Student Office will not be able to assist you in this regard.

Conditions

To apply for the first year of a Master’s program (M1), applicants should justify holding an L3 degree (Bachelor – 180 ECTS) or, for applicants who have studied abroad, an equivalent level.

To apply for the second year of a Master’s program (M2), applicants should justify holding an M1 degree (240 ECTS) or, for applicants who have studied abroad, an equivalent level.

Applications are approved by the admission committee.

Scholarships of Excellence – Presentation

Ampère Scholarships of Excellence

  • Master’s programs eligible: all Master’s programs in Exact Sciences, the Arts, and Human and Social Sciences (except FEADéP Master’s programs and a few Master’s programs). Consult the Ampère scholarship rules (document on the right)
  • Amount: 1,000€ per month for 12 months

Specific partnerships with some countries 
– our partnership with the Embassy of France in Romania and Campus France enables us to offer up to 2 scholarships of Excellence to students from Romania.
– American students enrolled in a US University applying for a Master’s program at the ENS de Lyon can also apply for the Embassy of France in the USA Graduate Scholars in France scholarship program.
– Canadian students enrolled in a Canadian university applying for a Master’s program at ENS de Lyon can also apply for an Embassy of France in Canada scholarship
– Indian students enrolled in an Indian university applying for a Master’s program at ENS de Lyon can also apply for an Embassy of France in India scholarship

GRADUATE + Scholarship

Graduate+ scholarships are awarded to the best international students selected for a Master’s degree in the following Graduate initiatives and Master’s programs, either in M1 or M2.

Those training programs are part of the Graduate+ project involving four French universities on the Lyon – Saint-Etienne site: Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, Université Jean Moulin, and Université Jean Monnet.

  • CORE (Conflits and Recompositions in a Globalized World): European studiesAdvanced Economics
  • DynLifeSys (Multiscale dynamics of living systems) : Biosciences, Biosciences for modeling of complex systems
  • MathInfi (Mathematics, foundations of computer sciences and interactions) : Advanced mathematics master (M2) , Computer science: concepts and applications (M1&M2), Maths in action (M2), Master Mathématiques appliquées, statistiques  (M1), Master Mathématiques Générales (M1), Master Machine Learning and Data Mining (M1&M2)

  • Scholarships are funded within the framework of the French government’s SFRI program.

NON-EUROPEANS students are students:
– who don’t have the nationality of one of the countries of the European Economic Area (the 27 countries of the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein), or of Switzerland, Monaco, and Andorra.
and
– who have obtained a higher education degree in a foreign country.

EUROPEANS students are students:
who have the nationality of one of the countries of the European Economic Area (the 27 countries of the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein).

1. Complete and submit the online application form.

Please note: these forms allow you to apply for a Master’s program and a scholarship of excellence.

Important information: by clicking on the following link, you will have to register to access the form.

Application on the wrong form will not be considered.

If you are a European student

If you are a non-European student, the process will depend on the Master’s program chosen

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Applications submitted via email will not be considered.

Incomplete applications will not be considered – it is the responsibility of the student to check that all requested documents have been uploaded.

2. Application review

All applications are reviewed by the admission committee of the ENS de Lyon. No results will be given by phone.

3. Admissions and enrolment

If your application is accepted in a program from ENS de Lyon, you will receive a letter of pre-enrolment with the steps to be followed to prepare for your stay at Lyon.

If your application is accepted in a program from Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, you will receive information with the steps to be followed to enroll.

The calendar for 2026 – 2027 will be updated in November 2025.

Documents requested

Please note: the International Student Office will not pre-validate the application. It is the responsibility of the student to check that all the requested documents have been uploaded. The uploaded documents will be examined after the validation of the online application. 

See below the documents that the candidates have to upload in the application form – in French or English only:

  • All candidates: 
    • Official identity document
    • Motivation Letter
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Certificate of diplomas and degrees already obtained (ex: Bachelor’s degree) –  documents are accepted only in French or English. If  the document is in another language, you have to provide a translated document in French or English, officially certified
    • University academic transcript of records – documents are accepted only in French or English. If  the document is in another language, you have to provide a translated document in French or English, officially certified
    • For the current year: proof of enrollment – documents are accepted only in French or English
  • Other documents
    • Additional documents are requested depending on the chosen program. Those documents could be about research projects, language certificates, letters of recommendation, and any other document useful for the academic advisors. If you do not have a document, an explanation is expected in pdf format.

All the information about language proficiency requirements (French and/or English) and documents to provide are available on this page – exceptions accepted are indicated at the end of this specific page.

PLEASE NOTE: if not available now, the required diploma for Master’s admission will have to be transmitted before the beginning of the academic year (compulsory)
